The Copenhagen accord is there-and the inevitability of reducing carbon emissions and carbon footprint of your activities and business starts to stare you on your face.Travel has to be cut down until cleaner fuels are in place-and that means leveraging and operating thru ICT technologies. The ICT impacts on climate change are also not small as some studies reveal-so carbon neutral ICT developments are called for. There is a need to undertake a CIA along with the mandatory EIA in the developing world too ,in addition to what needs to be done in the developed world vis-a-vis efforts to reduce carbon emissions of projects that are being proposed and operationalised. CIA refers to a carbon impact analysis and MITIGATION ACTION PLAN [MAP]that goes with it,which would become mandatory like the ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ANALYSIS currently in vogue for big projects.Greening of technologies and production processes ,and buildings and transport would become a major activity that produces jobs and GDP ,to substitute for the lost jobs and production or products affected by mitigation .Adaptation efforts too create emplyment opportunities in terms of infrastructure, operations, actions and materials in vulnerable areas that are largely in the less developed parts of the world, coastal areas ,high altitude locations and remote or isolated places.Carbon financing and REDD will definitely provide opportunities for local people, particularly in the developing countries ,while ensuring sustainable practices.Companies have to invest in cleaner production methods and procedures ,and carbon capture is likely to emerge as a major activity for big players, and the financing part will task the best brains in the developed and developing world. The MDG implications for the developing world in terms of curtailment of economic activities for emission reductions will have to stimulate more organized, networked and globally supported efforts for for reducing energy intensity of GDP growth.Environmental economics may eventually tilt the balance in favour of carbon neutral development.Sustainable agriculture and industry and energy practices may throw initial challenges for business in the developing world ,and help from the developed world is expected apropos COPENHAGEN accord.
